BIOGRAPHY

Chapman B.webp

Chapman Baehler is a Los Angeles–based photographer, director, and documentary filmmaker.

With a career spanning more than three decades, his work is rooted in authenticity, trust, and an intuitive sense for visual storytelling. Starting at just 13 years old shooting for Surfing Magazine, Chapman’s eye has helped define the visual language of artists, athletes, and global brands alike.

His portfolio includes hundreds of iconic album covers and creative collaborations, as well as directing music videos for Queens of the Stone Age, Stone Temple Pilots, and Towa Bird, to name a few.

As a photographer, Chapman’s work ranges from portraiture to documentary. He has photographed David Bowie, Radiohead, John Mayer, Queens of the Stone Age, Iggy Pop, Cyndi Lauper, The Hives, Brian Wilson, Arctic Monkeys, Alanis Morissette, U2, Jane’s Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, and Depeche Mode, among many others.

His images are characterized by honesty and a quiet, cinematic clarity. Whether directing commercial campaigns, documenting real lives, or capturing stills, his focus remains the same: to reveal character and emotion—moments that feel lived-in, not staged.

Chapman’s clients and collaborators span music, sport, fashion, and documentary, but the throughline is always a deep respect for the people and stories at the heart of each image. His signature is not a single look, but a presence—thoughtful, unobtrusive, and deeply tuned to the human experience.

Whether working in music, commercial, or documentary settings, his aim is to capture authenticity and character with a grounded, intuitive approach. His images reflect both technical precision and an appreciation for the nuances of human expression, resulting in work that resonates beyond the frame.

He travels internationally for his work, but lives and works in Los Angeles—with the Pacific always close.
